The
MISSION of the Parish Nurses: We are committed to promoting health and
healing of mind, body and spirit within the Parish community.
FUNCTIONS:
HEALTH EDUCATOR: Parishioners are encouraged to be responsible stewards of
their health. This is achieved in various settings such as blood pressure
screenings, classes, health promotion materials and workshops.
HEALTH COUNSELOR: The Parish Nurse offers presence and prayer to help people
make informed decisions regarding their health. This can take place in the
church, home or care facility.
REFERRAL
SOURCE: The Parish Nurse liaisons with community support services to help
persons or families meet assessed needs.
DEVELOPER OF SUPPORT GROUPS: Based on the needs and interest of the
congregation, the development of support groups can be facilitated by the Parish
Nurse.
HEALTH ADVOCATE: The Parish Nurse can provide support to a person and be a
person's voice when needed.
INTEGRATOR OF FAITH AND HEALTH: "Spirituality is an ever present and sometimes
dominant part of the human experience. As such it is integral to health". The
